UW breaks ground on new indoor golf facility

Published: 25-Sep-2012

University of Wyoming (UW) has broken ground on a new $1.2 million Cowboy and Cowgirl Indoor Golf Practice Facility in Wyoming, which will provide a new sports facility to the UW athletes throughout the year.

Designed by Casper-based architect Hein|Bond, the new facility will include four, eight-foot-wide hitting bays; an indoor putting green spanning more than 1,800 square feet with a high-tech synthetic surface that can easily be converted to host university events; and a state-of-the-art golf simulator.

The golf facility will also offer a centralised location for range balls with washing station, a team room with amenities, locker rooms, an office, study areas, a team lounge, a hall of fame and recognition of donors.

This will be the second building on campus funded entirely by private gifts. The first is the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center. The facility also will be available for those outside of UW, in the Laramie golf community and beyond.

The men’s team of Cowboy and Cowgirl Golf program began in 1941 while the women’s began in 1986.
