SUNY Geneseo Campus installs new bike shelter from Duo-Gard
State University of New York (SUNY) at Geneseo, a premier liberal arts institution, has installed a new bike shelter named as Van-Gard from the Michigan-based daylight system and outdoor structure manufacturer Duo-Gard Industries Inc.
Designed as a classic style bike shelter with contemporary twist of solar lighting, Van-Gard is the 11th addition to the company’s standard bike shelter models for Duo-Gard.
Located outside the dining hall, the new bike shelter has been created by integrating architectural aesthetics with the security of solar lighting. The bike shelter is the first-of-its-kind on campus.
It features a curved roof, which has been created with laser-cut aluminum plates welded into the arched rafter assemblies. Translucent glazing is 8mm clear multiwall polycarbonate in a batten style. Structural framing, painted in a custom blue, has been built with 3 1/2" diameter round aluminum extrusions.
A new all-in-one, flat panel, mast-mounted solar module has been selected for illumination. The unit is capable of swiveling in the desired southerly direction to achieve maximum efficiency. The Van-Gard model is specifically engineered for wind and snow load areas.
Designed for safety and security as well as bike parking convenience, the 9’ x 16' shelter can accommodate 14 bikes. Available in standard sizes from 9'x12' to 9'x36' as well as custom, the bike shelter also contributes to the sustainability element by supporting the alternative transportation efforts. Adhering to APBP (Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals) guidelines, the shelters are designed to address specific bike parking needs.
