Strood Academy in Medway wins Culture and Design Award
Strood Academy, a new school for the Medway community in Medway, UK which specialises in Business & Enterprise and Mathematics, has won the 2012 Medway Culture and Design Award in the New Build category.
Built by BAM Construction, the £26 million ($41.76 million) Strood Academy features housing and other school schemes, Chatham Bus station and the Bicentenary Bridge.
With an aim to provide a variety of vocational courses to both pupils and the community, the Strood Academy features a new sixth form and a vocational centre called as the Inspiration Centre. In addition to that, the academy also features new and improved sports facilities for the pupils.
Replacing the old Temple Boys Schools and Chapter Girls School, the Strood Academy was completed in September 2012 and is now available for community use.
Innovative in its approach to construction, sustainability and renewable energy, with Medway’s first wind turbine in a school, the Strood Academy project is part of the wider £80 million ($128.50 million) Medway Academies scheme, constructed by BAM, including the Bishop of Rochester Academy and Brompton Academy.
