Johnson C. Smith University opens new healthcare facility
Johnson C. Smith University in the US, in collaboration with Charlotte city officials, has opened a new healthcare facility known as HealthPlex, which is designed to provide health and wellness in the campus as well as the community.
Located next to Jack S. Brayboy Gymnasium, the new 5,600 square feet HealthPlex facility houses the university’s Applied Health Research Center and Wellness Department.
Providing health and wellness services that promote positive attitudes, healthy lifestyles and responsible self-care for the JCSU campus and surrounding community, the HealthPlex facility includes a fitness centre equipped with free motion fitness cardio and strength equipment.
The fitness centre features a multi-purpose room equipped with a teaching kitchen, Yoga/Pilates studio, wellness programs, group exercise classes, aquatic programming, locker rooms, storage and offices.
The new facility will also offer preventative wellness programming, such as weight management, health coaching, healthy living seminar series and healthy cooking demonstrations beginning in January 2013.
The new HealthPlex facility was officially opened on 26 October 2012.
