Published: 26-Dec-2011

The Grayslake campus of College of Lake County (CLC) in Illinois, US, will receive $17.6 million in capital funding for construction of a new science building and an overhaul of its current science facilities.

The entire project has been estimated to have a budget of $23.4 million. Along with the state grant through Illinois Jobs Now! capital funding, the college will contribute the remaining $5.8 million required for the project.

The new science facility will cover an area of about 70,000 square feet. Among the various features of the building are five new chemistry labs, a pair of new microbiology labs, three new engineering laboratories as well as six new classrooms. The facility will also revamp its seven present labs and nine faculty offices. Work further involves utility and site work improvements such as sidewalks, roadways, parking lot and landscaping. The project will abide by LEED Silver standards by incorporating various green measures.

Design work on the project is slated to commence by January 2012. Bids are expected to be taken by mid-2013 with the project due to be over by 2015.
